NEWS | 3rd Adriatic Flyway Conference

BIOSEC's Teresa Lappe-Osthege will be presenting her research on the illegal bird trade in the Western Balkans at the 3rd Adriatic Flyway conference in Serbia.

BIOSEC researcher Teresa Lappe-Osthege will be presenting a paper at this year’s Adriatic Flyway Conference, held in Serbia from 19-23 March. The conference provides an important platform for bird conservationists in the Balkans to meet and exchange experiences and to develop joint projects.

Teresa’s paper will discuss the linkages between biodiversity and security, using the illegal bird trade in the Western Balkans as a case study. Also the focus of Teresa’s work on BIOSEC, her project examines the nature of the illegal bird trade in South Eastern Europe and, by placing it in geopolitical context, assesses how the illegal bird trade affects security and political stability in both the Western Balkans and the EU.

After the conference, Teresa will stay in Serbia to conduct fieldwork and research interviews.
