A BuzzFeed News investigation reveals allegations of torture and killings

In a recent article from Buzzfeed released on 4 March 2019, the global conservation charity WWF has been accused of funding the torturing and killing of people in national parks in Asia and Africa at the hands of anti-poaching guards. WWF has responded to the allegations from this major investigation and a spokesperson has said that an independent review will be commissioned to look into the cases raised in the story

Forest rangers often pay people in villages to act as “informants,” documents show. That tactic is risky even when it’s used by trained law enforcement and intelligence agencies, since an informant can be tortured or killed if their cover is blown. Charities shouldn’t get involved with such a “dangerous” enterprise, conservation expert Rosaleen Duffy told BuzzFeed News, because they can lack training in how to collect and transmit sensitive information to keep sources safe.
